Caring for the elderly

The Main Entrance at the home

Built over 25 years ago and sited in the coastal resort of Porthcawl stands our pride and joy.

I speak of course about the Royal Masonic Benevolent Institution Home, 'The Albert Edward Prince of Wales Court'.

This magnificent complex is one of 19 RMBI homes . located throughout England and Wales and in total have over 1100 residents

It is the aim of the staff at Porthcawl under the guidance of the home manager Lorna Hasan, to provide care and attention tailored to an individuals needs.

There is no doubt that their efforts bear fruit because compliments are many from the residents, families and friends.

One Million pounds spent by the RMBI

In order to cater for those with special needs caused by mental or physical frailty, the home has recently been converted at a cost of approximately £1,000,000.

It now operates as six individual House-groups. Each group comprises approximately 12 residents sharing a communal lounge and dining room area. This has removed the necessity of increasingly frail residents having to walk long distances to dine and meet with their friends.

The Association of Friends
Chairman: Peter Frost     Vice Chairman: Glynne Roach
Secretary:

Whilst the running of the home is very professionally handled by the Royal Masonic Benevolent Institution, there is still a major contribution by the brethren of three Provinces

  • South Wales, Western Division

  • South Wales, Eastern Division

  • Monmouthshire

Together they have formed an Association of Friends to support the staff and residents by working directly to provide the additional facilities and events to help create a comfortable, warm and friendly environment.

What is the average age of the residents at the court ?

Answer.... 88 years of age!
